My little brother, John, came home from a summer-long mission trip yesterday! The family got up at eight in the morning to start cleaning the house and doing the lawn in preparation for his arrival, as well as a party we'd be hosting that evening. We cleaned non-stop until it was time to pick him up from the airport. We left, expecting to pick him up at 1:40, but his flight delayed and did not end up arriving until 3:00. He was coming home with a friend who is a part of our church and also went to the same missions organization as John did. We waited at our designated wait-spot with welcome home signs and eagerly looked for them. They weren't hard to spot, because they were the only ones hollering and running toward us.
The following hours were almost surreal. My ears were almost buzzing, waiting to hear any story John had to tell about his adventures in Mongolia and South Korea. We were all giddy and tired, but there was no rest to be had just yet... We had to prepare for a Welcome-Home-party we were going to host that evening for both John and our friend Will. We came home, gave him some happy-belated-birthday gifts and promptly hung streamers and banners. The party went on till about nine, and we were all thoroughly exhausted by the time everyone left. John then surprised us with thoughtful gifts he had brought us back from Korea and Mongolia.
Now that he's home, time is speeding up toward the new school year. We all start school next week - John and Randy back to high school and Trey and I back to GRU. So this week will be dedicated to back-to-school prep.
It's strange and comforting to have John back home though. I've certainly missed his laughs and hugs.
Blessings~
